Doing the #voguechallenge with a slightly different spin to it…..
For those that might not know what it is, creatives on social media are posting their ideas of what a cover model looks like and using the hashtag #voguechallenge. I’ve seen some super creative, artistic, and unique ones already in the few weeks it has been going on!
A few days after posting our #voguechallenge on Instagram, Some Good News re-shared the picture which was just incredible! We were so excited by the amount of support for the picture but also for the meaning behind it.
Because when you think about it…..
How amazing would it be for us to get to a place where Callie could routinely see someone that looks like her on a cover of a magazine?
Or in a TV show?
In a movie?
In a commercial?
On a billboard?
What if, it wasn’t a unique circumstance….but more of a regularity?
What if it wasn’t just a “disabled person” on the cover….but just a person, who happened to have a disability?
What if…..we changed what the definition of strength was?
What if we changed who we held up as a “super model”?
What if we got to a place where someone that looks like Callie could hold the same high coveted role that we give to swimsuit models?
What if we got to a place where Callie could take up the same amount of space that able bodied people do? In all forms of media?
What if we changed the definition of beauty was?
One step at a time?
Representation matters.
