These Moments

February 28, 2019 in Disability & Inclusion - No Comments

The other night before bed we were having a disco dance party….all three of us were dancing and I honestly laughed so hard my cheeks hurt.
Callie looked at us and said “That’s right, we’re the fun family!” I wanted to bottle that moment up.
I hope those are the moments she remembers.
I hope she remembers Daddy racing Mama down the halls of the hospitals just to make her laugh. He won for the record.
I hope she remembers Daddy singing dumb songs to get her to take her medicine.
I hope she remembers getting a stuffed animal at every hospital visit.
I hope she remembers the elaborate bed time stories I would tell her in the hospital….about the brave warrior princess named Callie.
I hope she remembers getting Starbucks cake pops after her prosthetic fittings.
I hope she remembers how we would smuggle ice cream into her room during hospital stays.
I hope she remembers getting balloons. And always picking the biggest pink one from the hospital gift shop.
I hope that she remembers the moments we tried to make the hard times fun.
The times we tried to dance in the rain.
The times that we looked for rainbows in the clouds.
Because those are the moments that I remember.

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

Hi Y'all

Hi, I’m Jaime — writer, mother, storyteller, and the heart behind The Wildflower Edit. For nearly a decade, I wrote online as The Princess and the Prosthetic, sharing my daughter’s journey with disability and the lessons our family learned along the way. It was a beautiful season — full of advocacy, connection, and community — but as my daughter grew older, I felt a shift. She deserved more autonomy. More privacy. More room to decide how she shows up in the world. And I realized something else: My own story was expanding too. Motherhood was still here. Disability was still here. But so were grief, healing, womanhood, nervous system care, feminine energy, homemaking, identity, softness… the fuller, deeper pieces of life that were ready to be spoken aloud. Whether you come for the cozy routines, the motherhood reflections, the disability advocacy, or the soft life inspiration — thank you for choosing to share this space with me. Pour a warm drink. Settle in. Let’s grow a life that feels like you again.
