You Might be the Parent of a Warrior Princess if….

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if…….

You have a first name basis relationship with the pharmacist. And her doctor and school nurse.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you find yourself yelling “where’s your leg?” or “you have to put your leg on first” frequently.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you are constantly amazed by all the things that she can accomplish.  Nothing stops her or slows her down and you are so proud of her.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you have had to explain why your child’s leg set off the metal detectors.  If the thought of going through the TSA check points at the airport are similar to a three ring circus spectacular.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you feel like you’ve spent half your life in the hospital.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you celebrate different triumphs and milestones.  First steps take on a different meaning for you.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you have learned to dance in the rain.  To bloom where you’ve been planted.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you love summer time because it means your princess can wear shorts.  Pants are hard sometimes.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you evaluate a situation on how well your child will be able to get around. Is it accessible?  How steep is it?  Are there good footholds?

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you have a small army of stuffed animals.  Because when she was a baby you started the tradition of a new “buddy” bought at every hospital visit and now there’s a thousand stuffed animals in her room.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you always look to see people’s reactions to your child.  If your first instinct is to smile and hope that their reaction is the same.  It hurts when it’s not and you feel your child’s hand grab yours looking for comfort.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you hope for empathy, representation, and inclusion for all.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you stay awake at night worrying about how high school will go.  Will she be bullied?  Will people make fun of the scar on her chest?  About her prosthetic leg?

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you have threatened “Don’t make me take your leg away” to get your child to just. slow. down. for. once.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you’ve slept in multiple hospital chairs.  On multiple occasions.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you measure time by what prosthetic leg your princess had….”she was about 3 when she had her Pooh Bear leg……”

You wonder if it’s possible to die of exhaustion.

Or a broken heart.

You divide your life into “Before” and “After” surgery……

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if your child is the bravest person you know.

If the doctor tells you it’s ok to sleep through the night….but you would never be able to forgive yourself if something happened so you still get up to check to make sure her heart is beating strongly.

You might be the parent of a warrior princess if you wonder how you were so blessed to be their parent.  To be given the most amazing child in the world………

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

Hi Y'all

Hi, I’m Jaime — writer, mother, storyteller, and the heart behind The Wildflower Edit. For nearly a decade, I wrote online as The Princess and the Prosthetic, sharing my daughter’s journey with disability and the lessons our family learned along the way. It was a beautiful season — full of advocacy, connection, and community — but as my daughter grew older, I felt a shift. She deserved more autonomy. More privacy. More room to decide how she shows up in the world. And I realized something else: My own story was expanding too. Motherhood was still here. Disability was still here. But so were grief, healing, womanhood, nervous system care, feminine energy, homemaking, identity, softness… the fuller, deeper pieces of life that were ready to be spoken aloud. Whether you come for the cozy routines, the motherhood reflections, the disability advocacy, or the soft life inspiration — thank you for choosing to share this space with me. Pour a warm drink. Settle in. Let’s grow a life that feels like you again.
