The Year in Review

December 21, 2023 in Holidays, Lifestyle - No Comments

Our word for 2023 was simplicity. I really felt called to peel back all of the noise, the unnecessary, and the extra that always seemed to take over our lives.

I’m really happy looking back that by saying “No” to a lot of things (and people) we were able to say ” YES” to so many things that really filled our hearts, renewed our spirits and brought us joy.

Sharing some of those moments below!

Callie Films a Commercial

What an amazing experience for our girl!  She was able to shoot a commercial with one of her heroes, Adrianne Haslet.  The film crew, the producers, and just the entire experience was so COOL.

Callie Does a Demonstration at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo

Another cool experience that our family got to do was participate in the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.  Callie was asked to present her story during a live demo of therapeutic horseback riding.  She shared how her disability impacts her life and how finding a sport where she can have adaptive equipment + incredibly amazing inclusive instructors has changed her life.  It was such a proud moment seeing our baby girl confidently (and commandingly) take the mic and share her message with the crowd.

In our Chicken Raising Era

We spent a lot of time this year at the ranch and more importantly, outside.  Feet in the grass, sun in our faces, and wind in our hair was our motto for most of the year.

This Girl Loves to Draw…….Arrows

Callie started archery this year with an adaptive league called Kinetic Kids.  Her team is made up of individuals with physical disabilities which is an amazing opportunity for her to broaden her friend group.  She absolutely LOVES it and has shown such an aptitude for the sport.  She placed 2nd at her first tournament and has rapidly risen within the ranks of shooters in Texas.

Lots of Date Nights

Another thing I feel like we did well this year was carving out specific time for “date” nights.  It’s amazing easy for us (especially with our schedules) to blink and have the month go by without creating meaningful time for us to reconnect.  I loved the fact that we were consistent with finding time for us in 2023.

Lots of Reading

All of us made reading a priority this year and finished over a hundred books between the three of us!

Time in the Dessert

As Much Time as Possible in a Cowboy Hat & Boots

Home Cooking and Healthy Living

Another area of focus this year that I think we excelled in this year was our health.  2023 was a year of fine tuning what works for us–red light therapy, cold therapy, supplements, changing up our workouts, and focusing on where our food comes from.  I can’t wait to see what other tweaks we can make in 2024 to live our very healthiest life!

Here’s wishing you all love and light in the New Year!  Thank you for being a part of this community–your love and support mean so much to our little family!

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

Hi Y'all

Hi, I’m Jaime — writer, mother, storyteller, and the heart behind The Wildflower Edit. For nearly a decade, I wrote online as The Princess and the Prosthetic, sharing my daughter’s journey with disability and the lessons our family learned along the way. It was a beautiful season — full of advocacy, connection, and community — but as my daughter grew older, I felt a shift. She deserved more autonomy. More privacy. More room to decide how she shows up in the world. And I realized something else: My own story was expanding too. Motherhood was still here. Disability was still here. But so were grief, healing, womanhood, nervous system care, feminine energy, homemaking, identity, softness… the fuller, deeper pieces of life that were ready to be spoken aloud. Whether you come for the cozy routines, the motherhood reflections, the disability advocacy, or the soft life inspiration — thank you for choosing to share this space with me. Pour a warm drink. Settle in. Let’s grow a life that feels like you again.

Jaime
