What Would You Have Done Differently?

February 28, 2019 in Disability & Inclusion - No Comments

During the interview for our first podcast yesterday, they asked “What would you have done differently had you known Callie would have these challenges?”
I’m glad I didn’t know what I know now.
I’m glad I didn’t know the road that was before us and the journey that lay ahead.
I didn’t know our lives would be changed forever in a moment.
I didn’t know what challenges would lie ahead.
I didn’t know the heartbreak.
I didn’t know the stress, the tears, the worry, and the pain.
I didn’t know the fear or the guilt.
There was so much we didn’t know.
I didn’t know how big our tribe would become. A tribe that supports us in everything we do.
I didn’t know how strong my husband was. What an anchor he would be for his girls.
I didn’t know how strong I was until Callie was born.
I didn’t know how proud I would be of Callie.
I didn’t know how strong she is…her strength, perseverance, resilience, and grace brings me to my knees.
I didn’t know it would light a spark in me and I would find my voice.
I didn’t know I would become an advocate for her and we would shatter glass ceilings.
I didn’t know the opportunities we would have….to help others and inspire change.
I didn’t know that we would thrive. Inspite of the challenges, we would bloom. We’ve overcome it…..by simply blooming.

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

Hi Y'all

Hi, I’m Jaime — writer, mother, storyteller, and the heart behind The Wildflower Edit. For nearly a decade, I wrote online as The Princess and the Prosthetic, sharing my daughter’s journey with disability and the lessons our family learned along the way. It was a beautiful season — full of advocacy, connection, and community — but as my daughter grew older, I felt a shift. She deserved more autonomy. More privacy. More room to decide how she shows up in the world. And I realized something else: My own story was expanding too. Motherhood was still here. Disability was still here. But so were grief, healing, womanhood, nervous system care, feminine energy, homemaking, identity, softness… the fuller, deeper pieces of life that were ready to be spoken aloud. Whether you come for the cozy routines, the motherhood reflections, the disability advocacy, or the soft life inspiration — thank you for choosing to share this space with me. Pour a warm drink. Settle in. Let’s grow a life that feels like you again.
