Farewell Summer

The end of summer is finally upon us….

This summer has been a kaleidoscope of brilliant moments combined with slow buttery sunsets.  Incredible memories but also lots of sleeping in, eating ice cream, and pool time.

It’s those times that I think I will remember the most.  Going to the library and losing ourselves in the stacks for an hour.  Picking out new authors to try and then curling up on the couch together at home to read our new books.  The excitement she had telling me about the characters in her books and reading aloud to me her favorite parts.

Summer6

Lots of ice cream dates.  Letting her pick as many toppings as she wanted and getting a sticky kiss after she was done.  Laughing about how she would say she was full after her meals but always have room for ice cream.

Summer3

Backyard barbeques, fireworks, and swimming time.  Playing with her favorite pup at my parents house.  The smell of sunscreen and chlorine when I lean in to pick her tired little body up when it’s time to leave.  The way that the sun bleaches the front part of her hair and brings out the tiny freckles on her nose…….

The incredible amount of pride on her face when she won her first place in her first horse show.  The way her face sought mine out as she looked for me in the crowd and ran to me for a  hug when she was all done.  How she told me it was the “best weekend ever” and how happy she was…….

And this moment……that now has truly had time to sink in.

Our sweet warrior princess, our Wonder Woman in the making……now has her very own prosthetic running blade.  Running everywhere now.  The amount of confidence it’s given her in a few short weeks.  The way she talks about starting new goals, like running a 5k and inspiring others to start reaching for their goals.  The outpouring of love and support for our girl–from the generous donation of the blade from Hanger Clinic and Endolite, to having our story shared by Rachel Hollis.

Yes, Summer of 2019, you were incredible.

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

Hi Y'all

Hi, I’m Jaime — writer, mother, storyteller, and the heart behind The Wildflower Edit. For nearly a decade, I wrote online as The Princess and the Prosthetic, sharing my daughter’s journey with disability and the lessons our family learned along the way. It was a beautiful season — full of advocacy, connection, and community — but as my daughter grew older, I felt a shift. She deserved more autonomy. More privacy. More room to decide how she shows up in the world. And I realized something else: My own story was expanding too. Motherhood was still here. Disability was still here. But so were grief, healing, womanhood, nervous system care, feminine energy, homemaking, identity, softness… the fuller, deeper pieces of life that were ready to be spoken aloud. Whether you come for the cozy routines, the motherhood reflections, the disability advocacy, or the soft life inspiration — thank you for choosing to share this space with me. Pour a warm drink. Settle in. Let’s grow a life that feels like you again.
