Callie’s First Horse Show

August 26, 2019 in Disability & Inclusion - 2 Comments

Callie had her very first horse show last month and I wanted to share the pictures.

I really hope this blog becomes almost an online scrapbook for her in a few years, capturing the amazing memories, small and large.  She will be able to scroll through it and be reminded of all of the incredible things she has accomplished!

The timing of the show could not have been better–we were coming off of a high of receiving her running blade and her self confidence was sky high.  She ended up winning first place at her event as well as taking home the “Best Posture” blue ribbon too!

I was so proud of her.  She was extremely nervous performing in front of her first large crowd but we held hands before the event and I reminded her that as long as she did her best she was already a winner to us.

Her little eyes sought mine out in the crowd after she dismounted and I have never seen her so proud of herself.  She met me with a bear hug and I might have had a few tear in my eyes.  This truly was the first time she’s done any type of competitive event and she won first place.  And not only that, she gave everyone else in her event hugs and high fives when they announced their places.  It was almost more touching to me that she was a good sport and a supportive teammate than her taking first place……she continues to amaze me with her sweet heart and kind soul.

We take the month of August off due to the heat here in Texas but our little rider can’t wait to get back in the saddle!!!

For the women blooming in unexpected places…..

    Hi Y'all

Hi, I’m Jaime — writer, mother, storyteller, and the heart behind The Wildflower Edit. For nearly a decade, I wrote online as The Princess and the Prosthetic, sharing my daughter’s journey with disability and the lessons our family learned along the way. It was a beautiful season — full of advocacy, connection, and community — but as my daughter grew older, I felt a shift. She deserved more autonomy. More privacy. More room to decide how she shows up in the world. And I realized something else: My own story was expanding too. Motherhood was still here. Disability was still here. But so were grief, healing, womanhood, nervous system care, feminine energy, homemaking, identity, softness… the fuller, deeper pieces of life that were ready to be spoken aloud. Whether you come for the cozy routines, the motherhood reflections, the disability advocacy, or the soft life inspiration — thank you for choosing to share this space with me. Pour a warm drink. Settle in. Let’s grow a life that feels like you again.
